چکیده

Managing forests has been demonstrated to be an efficient strategy for fragmenting fuels and reducing fire spread rates severity. However, large-scale analyses examine operational aspects of implementing different forest management scenarios meet governance objectives are nonexistent many Mediterranean countries. In this study we described optimization framework build that leverages simulation, management, tradeoff areas in Macedonia, Greece. We the evaluate five priorities aimed at (1) protection developed areas, (2) optimized commercial timber harvests, (3) ecosystem services, (4) resilience, (5) suppression difficulty. Results revealed by managing approximately 33,000 ha across all lands allocations 100 projects, area accounted 16% wildfire exposure was treated while harvesting 2.5% total wood volume. The treatments also reduced on responsible 3% potential impacts sites with important difficulty transmission protected attainment 4.5% 16%, respectively. tested performance multiple district when applying a proposed four-year fuel treatment plan targeted achieving high levels treating less but strategically selected lands. Sharp tradeoffs were observed among priorities, especially harvest production compared difficulty, areas.

An Integrated Solid Waste Management Method for Western Macedonia, Greece

Integrated management of solid waste is nowadays a requirement and, at the same time, a challenge for the conservation of civilization and life on the planet. The material and energy exploitation of solid waste already contributes to a great extent to the resolution of environmental issues in the advanced countries of the planet. Unfortunately, a signifi cant delay in the treatment of waste is ...

Market Adaptive Control Function Optimization in Continuous Cover Forest Management

Economically optimal management of a continuous cover forest is considered here. Initially, there is a large number of trees of different sizes and the forest may contain several species. We want to optimize the harvest decisions over time, using continuous cover forestry, which is denoted by CCF. We maximize our objective function, the expected present value, with consideration of stochastic p...

Biodiversity Futures under Alternative Forest Industry Scenarios in North Queensland

North Queensland is a major repository of biodiversity in Australia. From the perspective of industry proponents, the impacts of plantation developments on biodiversity deserve consideration because these impacts are likely to influence public acceptance of proposals and whether proposals can attract environmentally-linked funding and marketing opportunities. At the same time, plantations offer...
